Experts Propose Plugging Oil Leak with BP Executives

Submerging Execs Could Be 'Win-Win'

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) – At a conference of oil leak experts in Washington today, attendees proposed plugging the massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico with executives of BP, the company responsible for the catastrophic spill.

“We’ve tried containment domes, rubber tires, and even golf balls,” said William Cathermeyer of the National Oil Leakage Institute, a leading consultancy in the field of oil leaks.  “Now it’s time to shove some BP executives down there and hope for the best.”

Submerging the oil company executives thousands of feet below the ocean’s surface could be a “win-win” situation, Mr. Cathermeyer said.

“Best-case scenario, they plug the leak,” he said.  “And at the very least, they’ll shut the fuck up.”

But even as the oil leak experts proposed their unorthodox solution, environmental expert Marilyn Sufranski warned of the possible negative consequences of plugging the oil leak with BP executives.

ולכן הגיע השלב של זריקת הזבל "junk shot" שנידונה בעבר בבלוג (גרסה מתוחכמת של סתימה בשרותים) למרבה המזל ולפי bp  התהליך הצליח וכעת בעוד יום יומיים של של הזרמת בוץ נדע אם bp הצליחו להרוג את הבאר. אם כן יבוא השלב של הזרמת הבטון כדי לסתום את "החור הארור damn hole" (לפי אובמה והשמועה) באופן סופי.

אבל בינתיים כמות הנפט היוצאת מהבאר צריכה להיות פחותה במידה משמעותית האם?

הסרטים בשידור חיי מראים תמונה מעורבת לפחות אחד מהחורים במגביה בראש ה-BOP נסתם אבל נוצר חור חדש וחור אחר פולט יותר חומר מאשר קודם. לכן מצפיה במספר תמונות אין אפשרות לפחות לי לדעת מה קורה. מסתבר שהחששות של bp היו מוצדקים לכך שהתערבות עשויה גם לגרום לצרות.

כל הצד השמאלי פעיל פחות מהתמונה הזאת ומנוספות ברור שהחור השמאלי בין האמצעיים סתום גם הענן הימני אחורי נעלם. אבל בצד השמאלי מופיע חור חדש והזרם בחור השמאלי ביותר חזק יותר בברור (ממשיך בעוצמה עד לקצה התמונה ואילו בתמונה הקודמת מתפזר לאחר מרחק קצר).  מסקנה להחזיק אצבעות עבור תושבי דלתת המיסיסיפי האנושיים והאחרים. לגבי צבע החומר הנפלט קשה להסיק מסקנות משום שהגוון של התמונות שונה.

Remarks by the President on the Gulf Oil Spill

THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon, everybody. Before I take your questions, I want to update the American people on the status of the BP oil spill -– a catastrophe that is causing tremendous hardship in the Gulf Coast, damaging a precious ecosystem, and one that led to the death of 11 workers who lost their lives in the initial explosion.

Yesterday, the federal government gave BP approval to move forward with a procedure known as a “top kill” to try to stop the leak. This involves plugging the well with densely packed mud to prevent any more oil from escaping. And given the complexity of this procedure and the depth of the leak, this procedure offers no guarantee of success. But we’re exploring any reasonable strategies to try and save the Gulf from a spill that may otherwise last until the relief wells are finished -– and that's a process that could take months.

The American people should know that from the moment this disaster began, the federal government has been in charge of the response effort. As far as I’m concerned, BP is responsible for this horrific disaster, and we will hold them fully accountable on behalf of the United States as well as the people and communities victimized by this tragedy. We will demand that they pay every dime they owe for the damage they’ve done and the painful losses that they’ve caused. And we will continue to take full advantage of the unique technology and expertise they have to help stop this leak.

But make no mistake: BP is operating at our direction. Every key decision and action they take must be approved by us in advance. I’ve designated Admiral Thad Allen -– who has nearly four decades of experience responding to such disasters -– as the National Incident Commander, and if he orders BP to do something to respond to this disaster, they are legally bound to do it. So, for example, when they said they would drill one relief well to stem this leak we demanded a backup and ordered them to drill two. And they are in the process of drilling two.

HOUSTON — BP went ahead on Wednesday afternoon with its most ambitious — and potentially most consequential — effort to plug the mile-deep gusher of oil that has been streaming into the Gulf of Mexico for more than a month.

The procedure, known as a top kill, began at 1 p.m., the company said.

It involves pumping thousands of pounds of heavy fluids into a five-story stack of pipes in an effort to clog the well and stop the torrent of oil. BP officials said this method of containing spills had never been tried so far underwater, and that it could take days to determine whether it had succeeded. They cautioned there was no guarantee that the gambit would work.

The Coast Guard gave BP approval on Wednesday morning to move forward with the maneuver after consulting with government scientists, as technicians completed preparatory diagnostic work. A live video feed of the leak was available online throughout the procedure, BP officials said.

Tony Hayward, chief executive office of BP said, it would be “a day or two before we can have certainty that it’s worked.” On the other hand, failure could become apparent within minutes or hours, a technician involved in the procedure said. cont...

שמועות בעיתיות על מצב הבאר

בלוגר בארצות הברית שצופה כל היום בשידור החי ממעמקי המפרץ הגיע למסקנה שהנפט מתחיל לפרוץ ממעמקי האדמה לא דרך  פתח הבאר. הטענה חוזרת ומופיעה גם בטוקבקים 

האם יתכן שמעטפת הבאר העליונה ניזוקה עד כדי כך שהיא נפרצה והנפט והגז פורצים להם דרך נוספת בבוץ הרך שבקרקעית האוקינוס?

אין לי כלים לענות על השאלה אבל בהתחשב שדווחו שברי בטון על אוניה שהיתה צמודה לאסדה בעת הפיצוץ והבטון היחידי באזור היה בעומק הבאר ולכן הגז זרק את הבטון דרך הבאר ה-BOP  המגביה  לאוניה הסמוכה הרעיון לא נשמע מדע בידיוני.

שימו לב שנראה כאילו יש שתי יציאות האחת גדולה ברקע גז חום בהיר ונפט שחור והשניה מקדימה בצבע לבן ההמשך לפי הבלוג נראה כפיצוצים או התפרצויות של נפט וגז כאמור אין לי יכולת להעריך האם הדבר באת קורה או שמה מדובר רק בזרמים ובשיעולים כמו בברז אחרי הפסקת מים שסביר שיקרו בתערובת של נוזל וגז. במידה והתופעה קיימת אזי יתכן שתהיה בעיה בהרג הבאר מלמעלה ויתכן שלא בכל מקרה על הבארות הנוספות שנקדחות בכוון תחתית הבאר הדבר אינו אמור להשפיע. 

ישנה אפשרות הזויה של שחרור רבתי של מימן מהדרטים אבל התופעה תרם נחזתה ע"י בני אדם או לפחות לא כאלה שכתבו על כך. בעבר (פרה הסטוריה ) כנראה קרו ארועים כאלה בעוצמה שהביאה לגלישות קרקע  ולגלי צונמי חזקים. (Storegga slide לפני כ--8200-7000 שנה שלוש גלישות)

( אחת התאוריות על משולש ברמודה טוענת ששיחרור הדראטים גרם להקצפת האוקינוס וספינות שניקלעו לקצף פשוט שקעו משום שקצף קל בהרבה ממים. תאורטית האפשרות סבירה אבל בדיקה סטטיסטית מראה שאין יותר טביעות של ספינות במשולש ברמודה מאשר בשאר העולם)
